The following quotes are from the book Reverse Aging by Sang Whang.
Reduce High Blood Pressure
Sang Whang writes:
“In December 1986, I was introduced to a water ionizer by a friend [a registered nurse]. She told me the alkaline water from this ionizer would lower my high blood pressure if I drank 5 cups daily. In those days, I was taking 20 mg of Vasotec a day to maintain my blood pressure at around 140/90.
I bought the ionizer and started to drink high pH alkaline water. As I was drinking the alkaline water, I monitored my blood pressure. I reduced the amount of Vasotec gradually as the blood pressure started to come down.
After 6 weeks, I stopped taking Vasotec altogether. My blood pressure came down to 130/85 without my pills.
Dr. Kancho Kuninaka, one of the pioneers of the alkaline water treatment in Japan, states that virtually without exception, the patients with high blood pressure have an acidosis condition.
He has many successful clinical cases where the acid-free high pH alkaline water lowered blood pressure. Since the higher pH blood contains excess oxygen, the heart doesn’t have to work as hard.
Doctors know that if you take several deep breaths right before the blood pressure measurement, you can get a lower reading. You have temporarily elevated the pH of the blood by breathing in more Oxygen.
If you can lower your blood pressure by using this trick, you should be able to lower your blood pressure within a few months of drinking the alkaline water.”

Reverse Heart Disease
Whang continues:
“If your blood pressure is always high, chances are that your arteries are getting narrow (atherosclerosis) and it will take a long time, possibly a year or more, for that blood pressure to come down by means of alkaline water. It takes time to dissolve plaque and cholesterol build-up, but eventually it will work.
Your heart pumps over 5 quarts of blood every minute. Acidification of the body starts in the blood.
A trick that the blood plays to prevent acidification is to change liquid acid into undissolved solid acid. Cholesterol and crystallized uric acid are examples of these solidified acids.
When high pH alkaline water is consumed, these solid acids become liquid acids bringing down the pH to a normal range.
An insufficient amount of alkaline minerals will build up these solid acids.“
Solid cholesterol leads to narrowed arteries and higher blood pressure. Solid uric acid leads to gout.
Reduce Stress
Whang writes:
“We need rest in order to allow our body to dispose of wastes so that we can feel better. When we rest, we discard wastes faster.
Stress creates more acid. Under tension, we burn more nutrients in a short amount of time, creating a lot more wastes. For this reason, stress speeds up aging.
The proper amount of exercise followed by a resting period helps get rid of waste products, especially if one drinks alkaline water during that rest period.
Exercise expands clogged up capillary vessels. Then the high-temperature blood dissolves old waste products that are ‘hiding’ deep within clogged up capillaries.
Mental stress can be more devastating than physical stress because there is no rest period. It is a vicious cycle. Mental stress creates more acids and the acids can make you feel more depressed.
Japanese doctors claim that drinking alkaline water can change a depressed mood into a brighter, calmer mood.”
Our central nervous system uses the alkaline ions of sodium and potassium to transmit signals down our nerve cells (or neurons). When we are short of these minerals, we cannot respond to stimuli. Hence we are on overload — “stressed” or “depressed.” Alkaline water quickly replaces these minerals.
Other critical brain nutrients are polyunsaturated fatty acids — the Omega-3 fats in chia, hemp & flax seeds, the Omega-6 fats in pumpkin, sesame & sunflower seeds, and DHA/EPA in microalgae oil. These fats build strong neural membranes. Saturated fat builds your myelin sheath that insulates your neurons. Don’t forget the proteins in greens to make the neurotransmitters that carry the signal from neuron-to-neuron.

Prevent Cancer
One fact all oncologists agree on, cancer is a breakdown in cell signaling. The cell does not know what it’s meant to do, so it begins acting like the undifferentiated cell of a zygote and frantically multiplies itself over-and-over — just as you see cells multiplying after a sperm cell wiggles into the ovum.
What’s blocking signals to your poor cell? Acid wastes, they clog its protein receptors, the very receptors that peptide signals want to sit in, to tell the cell what to do. It’s a well-documented fact that pesticides are estrogen-mimickers, they fit estrogen receptors. It’s also a well-known fact that both breast and prostate cancer are linked to excess estrogen.
Another way cancer develops is when a cell does not receive the nutrients and oxygen it needs, and at the same time can’t get rid of its wastes. It’s like a goldfish dying in a glass bowl that’s never cleaned. As a last resort to stay alive, the cell switches to anaerobic “breathing” — fermenting glucose to create energy.
How does the cell get so isolated? Two main ways:
- Acids and other wastes stick to the cell membrane, the “wall” enclosing each cell. Alkaline water prevents this by giving electrons to these free radicals before they grab the electrons of the cell wall. Read more in Quench Free Radicals.
- Capillaries feeding the cell get clogged. Acid coagulates blood. Thick blood leads to high blood pressure and blocked capillaries (blood vessels thinner than a hair). Cells at the end of clogged capillaries can’t receive nutrients and oxygen, nor dispose of wastes. They die, or the stronger ones can mutate into cancer cells which thrive in a low-oxygen home.
Whang writes:
“Dr. Otto Warburg states that the primary cause of cancer is the lack of oxygen in a cell. He didn’t know what caused the lack of oxygen.
I think Dr. Warburg was dealing with the symptom of acid build ups rather than the cause. The German solution is to alleviate the symptoms, that is, to supply more oxygen, while the Japanese solution is to reduce the acidity, the very cause, by alkaline diet and/or alkaline water.
When you drink alkaline water, you are drinking water with excess oxygen, not in the form of 02 [oxygen], but in the form of OH– [hydroxyl ions] which is very stable because it is mated with positively ionized alkaline minerals.
The alkaline mineral is used to detoxify poisonous acid compounds and when that happens the hydroxyl ion is freed to supply excess oxygen to the cells to prevent the development of cancer. It is indeed the case of killing two birds with one stone.”
Treating Cancer
Whang continues:
“Chemotherapy or radiation treatments may be able to destroy ‘all’ of the malignant cells, but by that time the healthy cells are damaged to the point that they cannot destroy simple everyday bacteria and that person can lose his life.
Even after ‘successful’ surgery where ‘all’ of the tumors were removed, they can recur because the acidic environment has not been changed to an alkaline one.
Drinking high pH alkaline water will definitely help in preventing cancer.”
Cancer survivor Dave Perkins writes on his web-site:
“I am a diagnosed terminal cancer survivor … Ionized alkaline water played a vital role in my recovery. I needed water that would oxygenate, detoxify and alkalize my body while enhancing my immune system … alkaline water successfully answered all these needs.”
Build Strong Immune System
Whang writes:
“The Germans claim that the reduction of oxygen within our body lowers the immune power, and they advocate the infusion of oxygen and/or ozone.
The Japanese say that the reduction of immune power occurs when our body becomes too acidic and they advocate alkaline food and alkaline water.
Since more acid means less oxygen, the Germans and the Japanese are virtually saying the same thing.
I believe that the Germans are looking at the symptoms while the Japanese are hitting the causes … Discarding the acidic wastes [with alkaline water] means the increase of oxygen.”
Acid water has more H+ hydrogen ions and alkaline water more OH– hydroxyl ions, that’s why an acid solution has less oxygen, it doesn’t have the O2.
The more oxygen you get, the stronger your immune system. It’s a big reason to exercise in fresh air where there’s lots of leafy-green trees making oxygen. I’m lucky enough to live opposite a cricket field surrounded by trees where I run with my dog daily.
Don’t exercise in traffic or indoors — unless you have no choice, then ANY movement is better than NO movement!
The FIR energy in alkaline water (unique to the Jupiter Ionizers) also builds a strong immune system, by restoring integrity to the 3 layers of water that enfold every protein. This gives strength to enzyme-proteins, your immune system workers, while at the same time it stops microbes from invading your tissue-proteins.
A virus has to get into a cell, to attach to the cell’s DNA and multiply itself. A virus has no DNA of its own. Eat Raw Food
Cooked food weakens your immune system. There’s a surge in white blood cells right after a cooked meal. These immune system cells attack the denatured food as if it were an invader. Repeated cooked meals over-work your immune system, like flogging a tired horse (I don’t enjoy using animal imagery, but thankfully we stopped flogging horses when automobiles arrived).
Cooked food does not have the synergistically balanced nutrients of raw food from Mother Nature’s table. How can we build a strong immune system when we don’t give our cells the materials they need? People on raw foods don’t get colds.
Cancer survivor Mary, quoted in rawfood author Rhio’s Hotline of September 2004 [subscribe at rawfoodinfo.com] writes:
